Illinois suffers blow to secondary
Illinois starting safety Supo Sanni suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon Wednesday and will miss the entire season, head coach Ron Zook announced Thursday.
"Supo is a great young man who was on track for an outstanding season," Zook said in a statement "He was really coming into his own and I was very excited about seeing him play this year. He has a redshirt season available, so he'll still have two years of eligibility once he returns in 2011."
The Homewood Flossmoor product played in 11 games last season as a reserve but appeared ready to step in and help a defense that was dead last in the Big Ten a season ago (30.2 points per game).
