After gaining 201 total yards on Sunday, Matt Forte has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. Forte ran for 51 yards and added 151 receiving yards that included touchdown receptions of 89 and 28 yards.
The 151 receiving yards was the most ever by a running back in the opening weekend of the season and the second most receiving yards ever gained by a Bears running back. The 89-yard TD catch was the longest play from scrimmage by a Bears RB and the longest reception by any RB since 2001.
The first NFC Offensive Player of the Week award in Forte’s career is also the first for a Bears RB since Anthony Thomas in 2001. Jay Cutler was given the award in week 16 of last season.
