CHICAGO (CBS) – Before you grab your credit card and sit in front of the computer for some online shopping, make sure you check the calendar. As CBS 2’s Mary Kay Kleist reports, the day of the week can determine when you’ll find the best deals.

A national survey conducted by ShopSmart magazine showed 61 percent of female buyers spend more of their shopping time on the net, than in the stores. A good deal could just be a click away.

Savvy online shoppers like Sandy Price and Suzanne Lee are among the millions who are tapping the mouse to tap into deals.

“There’s so many resources you can use now to get the best price,” Price said.

Charlie Graham found an Internet shopping service that scours sales online.

“Among the different retailers, are they putting different items on sale for different days of the week?” said Graham.

So conducted a survey to find out. More than one million online sale items were analyzed, from last September to this September, to find out what went on sale, on which days. Here’s what they found:

Mondays: best for buying women’s jeans, men’s shoes, sunglasses and athletic pants.

Tuesdays: best for women’s sleepwear and dress pants, and buckling down on men’s belts.

Wednesdays: Savings shine on women’s sunglasses, handbags and dress shirts. And bring in the bling with men’s jewelry and sleepwear.

Thursdays: Relax with savings on men’s casual pants.

On Fridays: women’s dresses are marked down. And men score savings on sports coats, dress pants, jeans and swimwear.

Weekend warriors can start saving on Saturdays, with women’s accessories, suits and sweaters; and men’s casual shirts, jeans, suits and ties.

And on Sundays, women’s casual pants and shorts are discounted; while men’s accessories, sports coats, athletic and dress shirts are also reduced.

Suzanne Lee says knowing what to buy is just as important as when to buy.

“If there’s no deadline, then I might as well just do it on those days,” said Lee.
