Early Voting Begins Next Week

CHICAGO (STMW) - Early voting for the Nov. 2 election will begin in full on Tuesday, with 10 sites opening on Monday.

Beginning Oct. 12, all early voting sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays, with 10 locations also open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a release from the Cook County Clerk's office.

A down-loadable map of suburban early voting sites and their hours is available at the clerk's website: cookcountyclerk.com, the release said. A list of early voting locations and hours is also available for Chicago.

State law requires early voters to display vaild identification to an election official before receiving a ballot. Valid forms of ID include a current driver's license, state-issued ID or another government-issued ID with a photo.

Voters may also request an absentee ballot rather than visit an early-voting site, the release said. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 28 -- the same day early voting ends.

Early voting represented 21.4 percent of voter turnout during the 2008 General Election and 9.7 percent during the February 2010 primary, the release said.
