Man, 28, Shot Dead In Albany Park

CHICAGO (CBS) - A quarrel apparently sparked a fatal shooting overnight in the Albany Park neighborhood, near the campus of North Park University.

The 28-year-old man was found around 11 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the back in the 5000 block of North Albany Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. He was identified as Patrick Butler, of the 5200 block of West Palmer Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The only witness to the shooting said the victim was approached by two men and following a quarrel, one of them fired several shots. The victim was wounded once in the back, according to a Grand Central Area detective.

Butler was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:42 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner's office.

A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office was notified of his death, but had no further details.

The shooting happened outside the campus of North Park University, on the west side of River Park. Neither the man nor the suspects are believed to be affiliated with the university, the detective said.

A description of the attackers was not immediately available, the detective said.

No one was in custody as of the 5 a.m. hour Thursday, police said.
