Man Dead After Stabbing In Back Of The Yards

CHICAGO (CBS) - A man died earlier this week, and police are seeking a woman who is suspected of stabbing him at a Back of the Yards neighborhood motel on Sept. 23.

Francis Walton, 60, who lives at the Ashland Hotel in the 1500 block of West 47th Street, was pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m. Monday at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

On the morning of Sept. 23, Walton and a woman who may have spent the night with him began arguing at the hotel. At 8 a.m. he was placing her belongings out in a hallway when she allegedly approached him from behind and stabbed him in the left side with a knife, according to police.

He was found lying in the hallway and was initially taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.

There was at least one witness to the incident and police early Wednesday were seeking to re-interview the witnesses and are still trying to find her. Two knifes were recovered.

The establishment where Walton lived is also known as a "single-room occupancy" or SRO, and accepts long-term residents, according to a spokesman.

An autopsy is scheduled for later Wednesday.
