Driver Killed In Suburban Head-On Crash

BARRINGTON HILLS, Ill. (CBS) – A driver was killed Friday morning when two vehicles collided head-on in northwest suburban Barrington Hills.

Police responded at 8:17 a.m. to reports of an erratic driver in a green 1994 Ford Escort westbound on Route 62 near Palatine Road, according to a release from Barrington Hills police.

While checking the area, an officer saw the Ford cross the center line just west of Bateman Road and hit a black 2003 Acura SUV head-on, the release said.

The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. The person’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

The driver of the Acura was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Barrington Hills police and the Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating.

Why withhold the identity of the dead person pending notification of family? The family might not be able to be found promptly, but they might be reading this or listening to the broadcast. If they find out sooner, they can make funeral arraingements sooner.

It’s done so the family doesn’t hear of the death through the grapevine. Can you imagine!? It’s horrific enough to hear of a loved ones death, it should be told to the family in a sensitive way, not by hearing gossip and wondering ….

Sounds like it could have been a medical problem.
