Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By Semi

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. (STMW) - Witnesses told police a bicyclist weaved directly in front of the semi that struck him Thursday night.

Douglas Ewing, 31, of Portage, Ind. was pronounced dead at the scene, in the 900 block of north Indiana 149.

The crash happened at 6:39 p.m. and Ewing was wearing dark clothing and had no reflectors on his bike, police said. Sunset was at 6 p.m.

Both Ewing and the Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by Brandon Griffith, 50, of Hobart, Ind. were southbound at the time of the crash.

Griffith tested negative for alcohol. Toxicology results for Ewing are pending.

The Porter County Sheriff's Department and Coroner's Office continued to investigate.
