CHICAGO (CBS) - A Chicago native who is best known for making plaster casts of rock stars’ genitalia is now mounting a campaign for mayor.
Cynthia Plaster Caster, whose given name is Cynthia Albritton, announced Tuesday that she is planning a mayoral run. The self-described “recovering groupie” is using the “Plaster Caster” moniker on her campaign Web site and documentation.
“I am not a politician,” Albritton said in a news release on her campaign. “I am an everyday citizen that is sick and tired of seeing the problems of our city escalate and I believe we ALL need to participate in helping to make our city the best it can be.”
Albritton addresses serious Chicago issues and concerns on her campaign Web site, albeit with the inclusion of occasional sexual innuendo.
In calling herself “hard on crime,” Albritton said she likes the idea of police meeting with gang leaders, as Supt. Jody Weis did recently. But she said “the one in charge of law and order needs to be tougher and more commanding, rather than an Andy Griffith.”
Albritton also called for a focus on improving public education, helping the poor, protecting the city from a possible terrorist attack, and “ending unbalanced, excessive spending.”
“Politics in Chicago is failing. The city is bankrupt, crime is running rampant and we the people of the city are paying higher taxes for almost everything,” Albritton declared on her Web site. “This is a difficult time for many of us and I am tired of scratching my head and wondering why this is happening to our great city. I have decided it is time to DO something about it!”
Albritton is best known for making plaster casts of the genitalia of rock stars during the 1960s and 1970s — most notably Jimi Hendrix, whom she met at the Chicago Hilton and Towers in 1968. Albritton is a native of Chicago’s South Side.
