Black Friday Coming Way Early This Year

CHICAGO (WBBM) - A new survey of consumers offers some encouragement for retailers ahead of the critical holiday shopping season.

The survey finds that, for the first time since the recession began three years ago, most shoppers plan to spend more this year on their Christmas shopping.

"People might be a little more hopeful about the future than they were in 2008 and I think there's alot of sort of pent-up demand," says Greg Daugherty, executive editor of Consumer Reports.

Meanwhile, more retailers are advertising Black Friday specials, starting this weekend.

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, normally kicks off the holiday shopping season with sharply discounted merchandise.

The New York Times reports some retailers, worried about missing out to the competition, are starting their promotions earlier than ever.
