Ex-Hawks Niemi Having Trouble As Shark

Perhaps the Sharks regret signing the former Blackhawks goalie Antti Niemi. The Sharks lost 4-0 Sunday to Calgary while Niemi allowed three goals on the first five shots against him. He was replaced by Antero Niittymaki during the game.

Sharks coach Todd McLellan acknowledged that Antero Niittymaki saying “Nitty, let’s face facts, has been better than Antti has, so we lean that way a little right now.”

Antti Niemi might not be the Sharks’ starting goalie after this loss and will have to fight for it against Nittymaki.

The San Jose Sharks signed the former Blackhawks goalie Niemi for a one-year $2 million deal. Antti Niemi is 1-3-0 with a 4.49 goals-against average and an .854 saves percentage.

Anti will be okay. Albeit not as good as last year, because he had a great defense in front of him. He agent messed up on 2 counts: #1 overplayed his hand with he BlackHawks, and #2 his agent didn’t get him a 2 or 3 year deal with the Sharks. Zito would have walking papers if he was my agent, for sure….
