Firefighter Seriously Hurt Battling Blaze
CHICAGO (STMW) - A firefighter was seriously injured battling a blaze late Friday in the Austin neighborhood.
The fire started about 11:45 p.m. at an abandoned 2 ½-story frame house at 519 N. Lawler Ave., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.
A firefighter was hit by debris and taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County with non-life-threatening injuries, Curtis said.
Nobody else was injured.
The blaze, which was elevated to a still-and-box alarm, was extinguished about 12:10 p.m., Curtis said.
The cause of the blaze remained under investigation and the fire department remained on the scene early Saturday.
