Police: Kids Set Leaves On Fire, Causing Damage To Skate Park

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (STMW) - Police are working with several families to pay a west suburban park district for damages caused by kids setting leaves on fire in the park — a fire that spread to a skateboard ramp and platform.

Naperville police on Friday were asking for the public's help — and offering a $1,000 reward — for information about the Thursday evening fire at Centennial Beach Skate Park at 608 Sindt Ct., a release from police said.

A skateboard platform and ramp were damaged by the fire, although it was quickly extinguished and there were no reported injuries, the release said.

On Monday, police said a Crime Stoppers tip indicated several children had intentionally set dried leaves on fire, causing damage to the ramp and platform, the release said. Investigators spoke to the children and believed there was no intent to burn down the structure.

Police are working with the involved families in an effort resolve the matter with restitution to the park district, the release said.
