Semi T-Bones Car, Killing 1

CRETE TOWNSHIP, Ill. (STMW) - A woman was killed when a semi truck T-boned the car she was driving Wednesday morning near south suburban Crete.

Witnesses told police the truck blew a red light before barreling into the car about 5:40 a.m., Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Jeff Kashmier said.

The semi was southbound on Route 394 when it struck the car, which was eastbound on Steger Road and attempting to make a right turn onto southbound 394, Kashmier said.

"They collided in the intersection,'' ISP District Chicago Trooper Mark Hall said.

The driver of the car, Kelle R. Ill, 32, of St. John, Ind., was killed, according to the Will County Coroner's office. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:10 a.m., according to the coroner's office.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Ill was the only person in the car, state police said.The semi driver was not hurt. No citations had been issued as of 12:30 p.m.

Traffic was affected for nearly five hours following the crash, with the southbound lanes of 394 reopened about 11 a.m.
