No Injuries In School Bus Crash

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (STMW) - (ORLAND PARK) No one was injured Thursday evening when a school bus smashed into a southwest suburban junior high after transporting a boys volleyball team from Tinley Park for a game at the school.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. when a bus operated by Illinois Central School Bus Co. went out of control and struck a brick wall of Orland Junior High School, 14855 West Ave., near a science classroom, Orland School District 135 spokeswoman Bridget McGuiggan said.

She said the team from Central Middle School had been dropped off a short time before the crash, and the female driver was the only one on the bus when it occurred.

The driver told authorities that the accelerator pedal stuck, and she was unable to avoid hitting the school, McGuiggan said.

She did not have a damage estimate but said the science classroom sustained water damage from a broken pipe, and the room and its immediate area would be closed Friday until the wall was repaired.

Orland Park police could not be reached Thursday night regarding charges against the driver.
