AT&T U-verse Yanks 5 Channels In Contract Dispute

CHICAGO (WBBM) – AT&T U-verse cable TV customers, hoping to watch the Food Network or HGTV this morning could be upset to learn the those programs and several others are off the air.

LISTEN: Newsradio 780’s Mary Frances Bragiel Reports

The AT&T U-verse service has dropped the county music network Great American Country, HGTV, the Food Network, Cooking Channel and the home improvement channel DIY Network.

Those all are Scripps Networks channels and AT&T’s contract with Scripps Networks has expired. The channels were pulled Friday morning and it’s not known when the two sides will resume talks.

Scripps Networks President John Lansing says, despite what some may believe, the contract breakdown was not over money.

The problem, he says, is that AT&T U-Verse wants to use the company’s video on phones and websites and without restrictions.

Newsradio 780 has reached out to AT&T for comment.

Call AT&T and complain! The will give you at least a $75 billing credit and possibly additional promotions.Thats what they did for me.

  • Rich Crawford

Glad I stayed with Direct TV. I still get all the channels listed above.

U-Vverse customers should get a credit effective today since these channels were included when we signed a contract with AT&T!

  • FR

I will not pay for TV. I use an antenna.

  • William

The porn channels are still available.

Cable Companies need more regulations. They all violate thier contracts with customers but will not allow to violate your contract with them. UNFAIR policy.
