Metra Train-Pedestrian Incident Disrupts Service

KENILWORTH (CBS) – A Wisconsin-bound Metra train remains stopped and several trains have been delayed Friday evening after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a train near a north suburban station.

Metra train No. 335 struck the pedestrian about 4:45 p.m in Kenilworth near the train station, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. The train left Chicago and was headed to Kenosha when the pedestrian incident happened.

The train remained stopped at 6 p.m. and several Union Pacific North Line trains are experiencing delays as crews investigate, Miller said.

Two transportation sources confirmed a pedestrian was killed in an apparent suicide.

The affected train is on the move operating about 95 minutes behind schedule, although it is operating express into Kenosha and there are no passengers aboard, a service advisory said.

Train No. 347, scheduled to depart Chicago at 5:21 p.m. and arrive in Kenosha at 7 p.m., as well as train no. 349 scheduled to depart Chicago at 5:25 p.m. and arrive in Waukegan at 6:38 p.m. will not be operating Friday evening, the advisory said.

Outbound trains Nos. 341, 343 and 345 are also delayed. Those were heading to Waukegan, Winnetka and Kenosha, the advisory said.

Train No. 337, scheduled to arrive in Highland Park at 5:10 p.m. remains stopped at the Evanston Station-Central Street and train No. 339, scheduled to arrive in Waukegan at 5:45 p.m., remains stopped at the Evanston Station.
Kenilworth police confirmed the incident but could not provide further details Friday afternoon. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
