Lake Effect Snow Hits Northwest Indiana

PORTER COUNTY, Ind. (STMW) - A lake effect snowstorm is expected to drop about an inch of snow on northwest Indiana.

Lake effect snow will continue early Saturday in northwest Indiana – with the main band of snow in eastern Porter County (Ind.) from the Indiana Dunes through Malden, Ind., according to the National Weather Service's website.

Lake, Newton and Jasper counties in northwest Indiana will also be affected. The band could push further west, but is expected to weaken by Saturday morning.

About an inch of accumulation is expected on grassy surfaces, and visibilities could be reduced to less than a half mile, the weather service said.

Additionally, below-freezing temperatures are expected to cause slick roads, especially on bridges or overpasses, according to the weather service, which advises motorist to use caution.
