Man Charged In Deadly Englewood DUI Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) - A man now stands charged in the death of a woman in a DUI-related crash over the weekend, about a mile from his home in the Englewood neighborhood.

Jeremiah Thompson, 36, is charged in the early Saturday morning crash in the 7300 block of South Racine Avenue, which left Yasha Hicks, 35, dead.

Specifically, Thompson, of the 6900 block of South Laflin Street, is charged and/or ticketed with: aggravated DUI involving a fatal accident, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level exceeding the 0.08 legal limit, failure to reduce speed, failure to keep in the lanes, driving without insurance, and driving without due care to a pedestrian in the roadway, according to a police News Affairs release.

The man's exact blood alcohol level was not available early Monday, according to police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines.

Hicks, of the 8600 block of South Aberdeen Street -- was a pedestrian when the crash happened about 2:15 a.m. Saturday, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Hicks was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 2:42 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy performed Saturday revealed Hicks died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.

Thompson is scheduled for a bond hearing Monday.
