Report: State Prison Board Member Worked 1 Day

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) - Roger Walker Jr. is supposed to be on the job at the Illinois Prisoner Review Board at a salary of almost $86,000 a year.

But the Chicago Tribune reports that Walker, a former state prison director, has worked just one day in the 17 months since Gov. Pat Quinn appointed him.

The newspaper reports Walker attended a half-day orientation, but has not attended a Prisoner Review Board meeting except one that was held three weeks after his appointment in June 2009.

Walker says he has several health problems and needs the job for the insurance.

The governor's office says it was aware Walker had medical issues when he was appointed, but did not think the problems would keep him from working.
