Arlington Heights Marine Killed In Afghanistan

CHICAGO (CBS/WBBM) — As Chicago pauses to mark Veterans Day, there is news of another local Marine killed in action while fighting in Afghanistan.

The Marine Corps reports that small arms fire cut down Lance Corporal James Stack as he conducted combat operations in Helmand Province, a Taliban stronghold in southwestern Afghanistan.

Stack was a 20-year-old rifleman, and enlisted in the Marines 19 months ago. The Marine Corps says that this was his first combat deployment, but he already had been awarded the Purple Heart.

We are so sorry to hear of this loss. This marine was a great man. Mr. Stack (the father) is a teacher at Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights and is loved by all. He taught our kids. We pray for Jame’s wife and new born. God will sustain you. We thank you for your son, husband and father. He is loved and will never be forgotten. Our hearts and prayers are with you. God Bless Stack family. We are truly sorry.
