Police: Van Followed Teen Girl In North Suburb

PARK RIDGE, Ill. (STMW) - A 14-year-old girl told Park Ridge police that she was followed briefly by a vehicle after getting off a bus Wednesday afternoon.

According to an alert issued to parents by Park Ridge-Niles School District 64, the teenager reported that after she got off a Pace bus at around 3:40 p.m. near the corner of Oakton Street and Dee Road, a van began following her at a slow rate of speed as she walked on the sidewalk. The van continued to follow her until she pretended to make a call on her cell phone, the alert stated. The vehicle then drove away.

The van was described as "faded" blue with the side windows and two rear windows covered with duct tape. The van was full-size and a partial Illinois plate number was reported to police.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Park Ridge Police Department, (847) 318-5252.

On Oct. 27 an 18-year-old girl reported that a man driving a blue van grabbed her while she walked to school in the Robin Drive subdivision just north of Maine East High School. Park Ridge Police Cmdr. Lou Jogmen said police have not substantiated whether the same van and the same suspect were involved in both incidents.
