CHICAGO (CBS) – A man was robbed in his own front yard in the Marquette Park neighborhood Saturday morning and then shot as he tried to get away.
The 47-year-old man was in his yard in the 3400 block of West 65th Street at 8:52 a.m. when two young men approached him and robbed him, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
The robbers took an undetermined amount of cash from the victim and then shot him when he tried to flee.
“As he tried to make a break for it, he tried to run to safety, the victim was shot in the leg,’’ Perez said.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition, Perez said.
The suspects, described as being in their late teens or early 20s and wearing gray hooded sweatshirts fled on foot through an alley and are not in custody as of 10:30 a.m.
Perez said it was not immediately known whether the attack was part of a pattern, according to the officer.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating .

Wow. Joe Fled is doing such a good job with our CPD and violent crimes. I hope whoever is the next mayor fires him ASAP so we can work on making the CPD the largest gang in Chicago again. RIght now, they’re outnumbered, outgunned, and have no support from the courts or higher-ups.

Gun control? This man was shot in his own yard.. the one Daley says it against the law for a legal gun owner to carry his own gun. Interesting how this has worked out huh?

Make the CPD the largest gang in Chicago, but clear it of all of the renegade, corrupt, bad cops. Support from the courts and higher ups doesn’t mean letting cops walk when they do wrong or not policing them to make sure they are on the strait and narrow. Being a Chicago police officer doesn’t mean almost unlimited power on the streets. So yes, we need to make the CPD bigger, stronger and better armed, but fill it with civilized, law abiding protectors of all communities. The public will feel safer and the officers will receive the respect they deserve.
