Ryno Named Phillies' Triple-A Manager

After announcing he would not return to the Cubs organization last week, Ryne Sandberg was hired as the Philadelphia Phillies' triple-A manager, the club announced Monday.

Sandberg was originally drafted by the Phillies in 1978 and made his major league debut with the team in 1981 before being traded to the Cubs prior to the 1982 season.

The Hall-of-Fame second baseman was hoping to become the Cubs manager this year but was passed on in favor of Mike Quade. He then decided to pursue other options across the league instead of returning to the Iowa Cubs where he was named Pacific Coast Manager of the Year this past season.

The Phillies' triple-A affiliate is the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The team plays its home games in Allentown, Pa.
