Truck Spills 38,000 Pounds Of Steel On Dan Ryan

CHICAGO (CBS) – The Dan Ryan Expressway was back open in time for the morning rush, but it was a major mess overnight when a semi-trailer truck lost control and spilled its load of 38,000 pounds of steel.

The truck lost control around 12:35 a.m. Monday, and spilled the steel onto the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan at 67th Street/Marquette Road, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper Mark Hall.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, Hall said.

The northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway were closed for cleanup, but had reopened by just after 6 a.m.

Well If you didn’t have the trucks how would you get your stuff. Like food and supplies, clothing. Maybe it’s the dum car driver who cut him off. Ever think it’s not always the truck driver fualt. And no I’m not a truck driver I just know who delievers my supplies

Stud, did you think maybe he got cut off by a car?? I think that during the overnight hours trucks should be allowed to use the express lanes on the Dan Ryan becuse most of the trucks going thru the city at that hour are not stopping in the city but instead headed towards Wisconsin or points further north. Those trucks are rated for 80,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight and the tractor and flatbed trailer weigh less than half of that amount so actually a 38,000 lb. load is concidered relatively “light” for that rig.

I’m with Moe on this one – I’m willing to bet the driver got cut off and couldn’t recoup the weight shift. If he had a full 45,000 lbs it may have been even worse.
