CHICAGO (STMW) – No one is in custody after someone doused a man with a flammable fluid and lit him on fire Tuesday night on the South Side.
The man said someone threw a flammable liquid and set him on fire at 10:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Gaines said.
Police were notified when the victim, a 36-year-old man, got to University of Chicago Hospitals where he was in serious condition and told authorities of the incident, which occurred outside, according to a Wentworth District police lieutenant.
It was not immediately known if police are seeking one or more than one suspect, according to the lieutenant who said the victim lives not too far away from where he was burned.
A Wentworth Area police sergeant said the victim was burned on his left side and no one else was hurt.
The lieutenant said no one was in custody as of early Wednesday.
