At about 10 a.m. Friday, Westmont police were requested to check on the well being of family members at 515 West 61 St., Apt. C. Officers arrived to find three people dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to a release from police.

A weapon was recovered at the scene and there were no signs of forced entry to the apartment or of a struggle taking place, the release said.

The deceased were identified as Linda E. Brennan, 51; Mark J. Chapman, 50; and Brennan's granddaugther Julia A. Moore, 6, according to the DuPage County Coroner's office.

Chapman's relationship to the others was not released, but the coroner's office said all three victims lived in the apartment.

Police Chief Thomas Mulhearn said the incident appeared isolated and reassured residents there is no danger. "This was not a random act and involved only the three residents of the apartment," he said in the release.

The investigation is ongoing, and police were not releasing further information as of late Friday afternoon. Autopsies will be performed by the DuPage County Coroner's office on Saturday.
