CHICAGO (CBS) – A top Chicago business leader says now is the time for approval of casino gambling for the City of Chicago.

Gerald Roper, President of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, says now is the time for the City to establish a land-based casino in Chicago — one that could bring in much-needed revenue.

Opponents say the money would be less — and the social problems more — than backers suggest.

But Roper does not expect to see legislative approval anytime soon. He says political considerations and the race for mayor will likely be factors.

Mayoral hopeful Gery Chico hopes approval for a casino comes sooner rather than later. He says it could bring in hundreds of millions in revenue for education.

Gery Chico is the guest on our WBBM Newsradio 780′s “At Issue” program on Sunday and you can hear more of his comments Sunday at 930 a.m. and 930 p.m.

It’s too late now. When CHicago had a chance they blew it and now that they’re broke they want a casiono now. Chicago blows every opportunity to make maoney and do something great like when they remodeled Lower Wacker Drive why didn’t they make aRiver Walk like San ANtonio or other cities? Too late, too bad. Learn to manage your money and quit sticking it to people. Maybe the next time you spend $13,000,000 for a bean it will be a magic bean. What a goose that lays golden eggs? i GOT ONE FOR CHICAGO.

The LAST thing Chicago needs is convenience gambling, in bars and restaurants or a massive Chicago casino. Money that is lost gambling is money that would have been spent on a car or refrigerator, according to Donald Trump.

Gambling transfers wealth from the many to the few. The few are casino owners (like Donald Trump) and investors, not other gamblers. Since the house always wins, the gambling public ends up the losers. Lost money would have been better spent on consumer goods in the local economy.
