Downers Grove Mayor To Fill State Senate Seat

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (STMW) - A committee led by DuPage County Board Chairman-elect Dan Cronin has picked Ron Sandack, mayor of Downers Grove, to finish out the two years remaining in Cronin's District 21 state Senate term.

"Mayor Sandack will contribute a local perspective and new ideas that are needed to deal with the tough issues our state will confront over the next few years," Cronin said in a press release. "He's been a vocal advocate for pension reform, fiscal accountability and economic development."

Elected to the village's top post in 2007, attorney Sandack served a term on the Downers Grove Village Council and has held an assortment of appointed positions in the municipality.

Still remaining to be filled is the unfinished 48th District term of state Sen. Randy Hultgren, R-Wheaton, who bested incumbent District 14 U.S. Rep. Bill Foster in the Nov. 2 election. Area Republicans will hear from interested candidates at a breakfast meeting being hosted by Taproot Republicans of Illinois at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Old Country Buffet, 551 E. Roosevelt Road, Lombard.
