CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (STMW) – The death of a man who was found early Saturday in south suburban Chicago Heights with multiple gunshot wounds to the head has been ruled a homicide, according to autopsy results.

Police responded at 3:57 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the area of 63 W. Hickory St. and found Courtney Wells, 26, lying on the ground near the front steps of a building with blood coming from his head, according to a Chicago Heights police release.

It is believed Wells, of the 1300 block of Center Avenue in Chicago Heights, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head, the release said. Several shell casings where found close to the victim.

Wells was dead on the scene and an autopsy Sunday revealed he died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Courtney Wells was a very well respected member of the community. He worked hard as a club promoter and artist manager who helped to create opportunities for young Chicago hip-hop artists reach a wider audience.

He is the father of a 5 year old boy Courmarion Wells. He was also a Arena Football player, most recently with the Tuscan Thunder.

He was my friend and a very good person who was not the intended target of those bullets and did not deserve to die. He was to host a “End gun violence” rally in December. Take a chance and some time to review the life of this man. Here is his facebook page:

RIP to an ex-employee of mine. While working at Aloha Professional Window Cleaning, this young man would come in every day with a smile from ear to ear. He would talk to me about all of his dreams and how motivated he was to achieve them. We even discussed him autographing one of my footballs which was signed by the Chicago Bears. Unfortanetly this never happened. He will be missed by our entire family at Aloha Professional Window Cleaning.

p.s. to whom it may concern: Can you please provide us any information of where and when the wake/funeral will be taking place.

It’s feels like I lost one of my sons, anyone who ever plays for me is a son to me. Courtney and I were in Danville together. He was one of the most dedicated players I ever worked with in my 40 plus years of football. Even when we didnt get paid by our crook of an owner Courtney stayed and played with passion. He was selected to the AIFA all-star team in 2007. God bless him and his family. RIP Courtney

Are there any words that can really tell you how I am feeling. I don’t think that there are. Cori a young man with so much love to give and that was loved. He lover his son and his family more than anything. I know that one day I will see him again. He shall forever live in my heart. I made him a promise that I shall keep and that is a fact. Cori loved life, Courmarion, his son brought a smile to every conversation, and His family.
