Man Murdered In Wrigleyville Apartment Building

CHICAGO (CBS) – A 31-year-old man was shot and killed in his Wrigleyville apartment on Thanksgiving Day.

LISTEN: Newsradio 780’s Michele Fiore Reports

Norberto Velez was found dead at 7:20 p.m. in the hallway of his apartment building in the 900 block of West Addison Street, police said.

Neighbors said police told them they found no signs of a break-in and that nothing was stolen from Velez’s home.

Jillian Archer, who lives in the building, said Velez worked as a bouncer.

“He was super nice,” she said. “He helped me take out my garbage.”

Archer said Velez had lived in the apartment for only a few months.

    What the hell???
OMG this is one of the safest areas of Chicago!! I love this area. I can’t believe something like this has happened.

I hope they catch the SOB…can do the crime but then run like a tramp.

This man lost his life on a holiday for nothing.

What you bet that the moron that did this, doesn’t even live in the area.
I pray that God has allowed him to come back home.

RIP sir. I knew not of you, but no one should have to die at the hands of another so-called human being. I pray your soul has returned to its original place, and that your family get carried by the strength of God.

Everyone that loved you and cherished you, will see you again.

This is a very tragic incident, however one thing I hope happens as a result of things like this is that people’s awareness is raised in Chicago all over. I, as a south side resident am sick and tired of people being shocked when something happens on the north side as if Chicago as a whole isn’t a dangerous city, and then to comment that the person probably doesn’t live in the area only raises the ignorance level by a million. I think the police need to beef up patrol in the city as a whole, and maybe just maybe someone wouldn’t be able to go across town and commit a murder without anyone having the slightest clue as to what happened.

  • Norby's life long best friend.

If anybody heard anything unusual please call local authorities. Norby was well and alive Monday and Tuesday and sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning is when this tragedy must have happened. We were supposed to go out together Wednesday night. All of Wednesday morning day and evening I called him and I got no answer from him. Unfortunately on Thanksgiving evening I received the bad news. i love you buddy RIP. I will never forget our childhood memories together and all the good times we spent together.
