Aerial imagery, winter driving conditions, road construction, points of interest. That’s all part of an overhauled state website.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – The Illinois Department of Transportation is unveiling an improved website with winter driving conditions, road construction and traffic volume.
The new site has an interactive map of Illinois. www.gettingaroundillinois.com combines information from different IDOT bureaus to update motorists on traffic counts, construction progress and upcoming projects.
Users of www.gettingaroundillinois.com will also find information for trips including points of interest, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, museums and more.
The five-year-old website is updated every ten minutes. It receives 50,000 hits a month during the winter.
The site uses a modernized map with aerial imagery. Truckers will find information such as weight restrictions on local roads and bridges.
