CPS Assistant Principal Charged With Threatening Cop

CHICAGO (STMW) - A south suburban man who works as a principal for a Chicago elementary school is charged with threatening to kill a Chicago Police officer he claimed was having an affair with his wife.

Carlos Delgado, 41, of La Vergne Ave. in Crestwood, was charged early Wednesday with assault to a police officer and two counts of harassment by telephone, according to police. The charges are misdemeanors.

Delgado was arrested Monday at Sawyer Elementary School at 5248 S. Sawyer Ave. in Chicago, where he works as assistant principal.

On July 12, Delgado was allegedly in front of the officer's South Side home when he told the officer's wife that her husband was having an affair with his wife, according to a police report.

He allegedly told her he "knows where their in-laws live,'' knows that they have a child, and that he could "ruin" the officer's life if he didn't stop seeing his wife,'' according to the report.

Two days later, he allegedly sent text messages to the officer, including one that had pictures of small children, according to the report.

Things came to a head Sunday when the officer saw Delgado again standing in front of his home. When he went outside to investigate, Delgado allegedly began making "three throat-slashing motions'' to the officer, the report said.

Delgado allegedly told the officer: "You're dead. I'm going to kill you. I don't care if you are a police officer. It's going to be on my terms, I am going to choose the time and place,'' according to the report, which said Delgado drove away in a gray sport-utility vehicle.

Delgado has been assistant principal at Sawyer since July 2007, according to the school website. Chicago Public Schools spokesman Monique Bond said the matter is under review to determine if disciplinary action is required.
