Suicidal Man Shot By Police In Oak Lawn
OAK LAWN, Ill. (CBS) – An investigation is underway after police shot and wounded a suicidal man in Oak Lawn.
The man allegedly lunged at police with a knife and attempted to stab two officers in his home in the 4100 block of West 109th Street.
At 8:06 p.m. Wednesday, police received a 911 call from a woman who said her husband was trying to kill himself with a knife, according to a release from Oak Lawn Police.
The two officers who arrived at their house, were immediately confronted by the 40-year-old man, who was wielding two knives.
The woman had told the 911 operator her husband said he would harm the officers responding to the call, the release said.
One officer tried to use a Taser on the man, who continued to confront the officers and attempted to stab them, according to the release.
The second officer then shot the man, who fell to the floor, the release said.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in an unidentified condition, according to the release.
No one else was injured in the incident, the release said.
The Illinois State Police Police Public Integrity Unit was notified and is investigating.
