Fire Breaks Out In West Side Church

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A fire early Friday heavily damaged a church on the city's West Side.

Firefighters responded around 3:15 a.m. to a still-and-box alarm at the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in the 600 block of South Tripp Avenue.

Sixty firefighters were called to the scene, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado said.

Heading to work on the Eisenhower Expressway Friday morning, CBS 2's Don Schwenneker stopped at the scene. He arrived and took video a short time after the fire was extinguished.

No one was injured, according to Rosado. By 4:30 a.m., the fire was out and firefighters are hosing down hot spots.
