Bus Driver Resigns After Running Over Snowman

URBANA, Ill. – A Champaign-Urbana bus driver has resigned after officials with the transit agency saw an online video of the driver running over a snowman built in the middle of a street.

The video is posted on YouTube. It shows the bus veering toward the snowman on the University of Illinois campus and running over it.

The video was posted after a snowstorm earlier this month and shows only one other vehicle on the street at the time. That car steered around the snowman moments before the bus hit it. It isn’t clear who built the snowman or shot the video.

Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District spokeswoman Jan Kijowski told The (Champaign) News-Gazette that the driver resigned. She refused to identify the driver or discuss the resignation.

A “Save The Bus Driver” Facebook page as been created in an effort to get the driver back behind the wheel. As of Monday afternoon, it had over 800 fans

A-hole kids cost the driver a good job. I’ll bet he/she was just clearing that out of the road. What if a car had crashed because of the snow man?

AMEN, the punk kids should be ashamed of themselves and forced to apologize to the Bus Driver. They could of caused an accident and the Punks should be charged with obstructing traffic. No Brainer Bus Driver should come back to work>

  • Sensible

The idiots on the video should be prosecuted for placing a driving hazard in the middle of the road. This is a street not their driveway. The pranksters should be made to shovel all the streets in the neighborhood for the rest of the winter! Enough is enough.

I cannot believe that this driver was “forced” to resign after meeting with officials! There were no cars or people in front of him, and no one was in any danger. The most punishment he should have gotten is a few days unpaid leave. having a little bit of harmless fun does not mean you should lose your job. he could also just claim that he was clearing the road for other drivers!

He wasn’t ‘forced’ to resign; he resigned. It’s downright silly. Ms (or Mr.) Sensible above has it exactly right. That snow structure was in a roadway and was creating a hazard. It wasn’t in the yard or driveway of the knuckleheads who thought it such a tremendous idea to build something – stupidly – in the middle of a road.

The driver should be reinstated. The pranksters? Once again Ms Sensible: “the pranksters should be made to shovel all the streets in the neighborhood for the rest of the winter!” Or at least in Buffalo, NY!
