Source: Body Found On West Side Is Kidnapping Victim

CHICAGO (STMW) - The body of a man kidnapped by four people Saturday afternoon on the Southwest Side was found Monday night in a West Side garage, sources said.

The body of a man in his 40s was found at 9:02 p.m. inside a vehicle in a garage in the 1100 block of North Springfield Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro, citing preliminary information.

A law enforcement source said the man found inside the sport-utility vehicle is the person kidnapped Saturday afternoon.

The 45-year-old man was kidnapped at 1:45 p.m. Saturday from the 2200 block of South Keeler Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said.

The man's 1995 four-door Chevrolet Blazer with Illinois license plates D1S570 was also missing, Baety said.

Dispatch reports indicate police were looking for three men and a woman armed with handguns who apparently pretended to have interest in renting a building the victim was rehabbing.

The four duct-taped and kidnapped the victim, the reports indicate. A second person was also kidnapped, but managed to escape.

The reports indicated the kidnappers demanded $500,000 ransom from the victim's family.

Harrison District police Capt. Roger Bay confirmed the crime lab was sent to the Springfield address to investigate. Harrison Area detectives remain on the scene, Alfaro said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has not been notified as of 10:30 p.m.
