Police: Unborn Child Killed In Suburban Crash

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (STMW) - An unborn child was killed in a head-on crash Monday afternoon in northwest suburban Woodstock, police said.

Emergency crews responded at 1:46 p.m. Monday to a two-vehicle, head-on crash in the 500 block of South Eastwood Drive in Woodstock, according to a Woodstock police release.

A 1999 Pontiac Sunfire driven by 62-year-old Elaine Kokaska, of Harvard, was traveling north on Eastwood Drive when the car veered into the southbound lanes and collided with a southbound 2000 Hyundai Accent, the release said.

Kokaska and the driver of the Hyundai, 19-year-old Lynette Volant, of Crystal Lake, were taken to Woodstock Centegra Hospital, the release said. Volant was pregnant at the time and her unborn child died as a result of the crash, police said.

Woodstock police are investigating.
