Passenger Hits CTA Driver, Sends Bus Into Building

CHICAGO (STMW) - Two CTA passengers were taken to area hospitals after another passenger attacked a bus driver, causing the driver to lose control and smash into a South Side building Friday night.

Police said the crash happened at 7:40 p.m. in the 100 block of East 47th Street.

A No.47 bus was heading west on 47th street when it struck a building at 47th and Michigan Avenue, CTA spokeswoman Kim Myles said. Two passengers were taken to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries, she said.

A bus driver was apparently struck by a passenger, causing them to lose control of the bus and slam into the building, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. The offending passenger fled after the crash.

Police did not have a description of the man who fled and said he was not in custody Friday night.

The CTA and police are investigating the crash.
