Man Killed By Grocery Store Truck

Batavia, Ill. (STMW) - A west suburban man was killed by a grocery store truck in Batavia Friday.

The driver of the truck, which belongs to the Aldi Food Store Chain, was backing up in an Aldi Store parking lot in Batavia Friday. The driver apparently did not see the man walking behind the truck. The truck ran over the pedestrian, who was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he was pronounced dead.

The man has been identified as 53-year-old Raymond Van Pelt of Aurora. The accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. Friday at 1200 Kirk Road.

The 46-year-old truck driver has not been identified.
