A staple of the Bears’ defense under Lovie Smith has been forcing turnovers. While that’s lacked over the past few games, expect the Bears to turn that around.
“One of the things that we haven’t been pleased with is just the amount of takeaways,” Lovie said. “This time of year, that turnover ratio is big.”
Lovie has always placed a high priority of forcing takeaways, players like Charles Tillman have become very adept at punching the football out and capitalizing on opportunities.
With the playoffs on the horizon, turnover ratio can mean the difference between one-and-done and making a deep run to Dallas.
“We haven’t taken the ball away enough,” Lovie said. “Hopefully we can get back to that this week.”
While Lovie, as usual, remained even keeled when talking about forcing turnovers, expect for the defense to be more aggressive than normal.
