CHICAGO (STMW) – A suspect is in custody, after a man was killed and his girlfriend wounded in a shooting late Thursday in the Bridgeport neighborhood.

Police said the man was walking with a woman in the 2800 block of South Archer Avenue about 10:14 p.m. when another man approached on foot and fire shots, police said.

The victim, identified as Jose Orozco, 29, of the 1800 block of West 33rd Street, was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 10:56 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. He was shot multiple times, including in the back.

He was with his girlfriend at the time, sources said. The two had just gotten out of his Jeep when they were shot.

The girlfriend suffered a graze wound to her right foot and was treated and released at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.

A male suspect in his 20s is in custody, Perez said.

Wentworth Area police detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
