Teen Charged With Fatal Stabbing At New Year's Eve Party

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 19-year-old man was charged with murder on Saturday for allegedly stabbing a man to death during a fight at a New Year's Eve party.

Chicago police said a 47-year-old man was stabbed at about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 6700 block of South Halsted Street. It happened when an argument turned violent at a New Year's Eve celebration at that address.

Marcus Byrd, 19, allegedly stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife, according to a statement from police. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died.

The victim, identified as Michael Pope, suffered stab wounds to the abdomen and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Byrd was due in Central Bond Court on Sunday.
