The pastor, Sam Lyons, said he had never met McDaniel before this morning, but calls him a hero and believes he needs to be honored for his bravery in protecting himself and an employee of a tanning salon last month.

McDaniel had said that he reacted the way he did because he was thinking about his family, including his 15-month-old daughter, Lexi.

Gary Amaya is considered the "Honeybee Killer" after the .38 used in the tanning salon shooting was the same gun used in a pair of shootings last October, according to Will County Sheriff's police ballestic's testing.
