Church Honors ‘Honeybee’ Hero

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM) – Jason McDaniel, along with his wife and toddler daughter, accepted a plaque, engraved bible and gift certificate from the pastor of Ashburn Baptist Church in south suburban Orland Park this morning.

The pastor, Sam Lyons, said he had never met McDaniel before this morning, but calls him a hero and believes he needs to be honored for his bravery in protecting himself and an employee of a tanning salon last month.

McDaniel had said that he reacted the way he did because he was thinking about his family, including his 15-month-old daughter, Lexi.

Gary Amaya is considered the “Honeybee Killer” after the .38 used in the tanning salon shooting was the same gun used in a pair of shootings last October, according to Will County Sheriff’s police ballestic’s testing.

Ok! The bible still say’s thou shall not kill!!!! that saids a lot for the church that’s honoring him don’t you think?

    • Sarah

ok the bible does say that but it also talks about justice. once somebody points a gun at you you have the right to kill them. they will kill you first if you dont. justice was served which is right in gods eyes. our church sticks right to the bible. i think we know how to read it thats why we honored him because if you read the bible you would see that what we did was right. i was there cause i go to that church

read the bible tutti you are an ididot A man should not protect hisd family , police and soldiers should not protect society ?

  • Marilyn

Tutti….would it have been better to have a funeral for this man and the woman that works at the tanning salon? I D I O T

    • Bob

I agree…Tuddi, you are an IDIOT

  • george

God, Please bless this man and his family…

  • Sheri

It is clear that this man was being honored for his courage which saved lives. He did not commit murder, rather used self defense. It was a day for praise for the blessing that these families were spared the tragic loss of their loved ones.

  • andrea

The bible is clear on self defense. I was also there at the service and agree we need more men to stand up in a world filled with crime. Who knows what would have happened to the woman at the salon, to Jason or the many other customers as they entered. Read the whole bible before you speak about it.

  • carmen

We should always praise someone who does the right thing at the right time. Thank you, Jason. I feel sorry for the Amaya family, but perhaps other tragedies were averted, both in the salon and on down the road.

  • Roger Henson

Thank God for people like him in this world.

  • Gayle Alleluia

Amaya was a cold-blooded murderer who needed to be stopped. He thought he could go to a defenseless young girl in a tanning salon and rob and most likely, kill her. Seems to me that Jason was planted there by God to protect her.

Tutti…..I pray that your spirit will not become bitter against those who have called you an “idiot” in the posts above. Those who call themselves “Christ followers” do not spout venom as they have. Do not become embittered against the real Christ-followers as their trademark is love, not hate/venom..
