Braun Won't Release Taxes Because 'I Don't Want To'

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago mayoral candidate Carol Moseley Braun says she won't release her income tax returns before the election.

When reporters asked why she would not do what her opponents have done, she replied: "Because I don't want to."

Mayoral contenders Gery Chico, Rahm Emanuel and Miguel Del Valle have made their tax returns public.

The Chicago Tribune reports, Chico and his wife reported over $2.5 million in income in 2009. Emanuel reported about $2 million from 2007-2009, while Del Valle's income came from his nearly $115,000 city clerk salary, according to the Tribune.

Braun made her comments about her taxes at a news conference in which she vowed to try to rescind the city's parking meter lease deal. She said the city was "snookered'' into the deal, adding that the true value of leasing the meters is much more than the $1.1 billion paid in the contract
