Report: O'Hare Beats Busiest U.S. Airports In Traffic Growth

CHICAGO (STMW) - O'Hare International Airport saw the largest growth in traffic last year among the 10 busiest airports in the United States, according to figures released Wednesday.

Both O'Hare and Midway International saw increases in passenger volume, aircraft operations, non-airline revenue and cargo tonnage in 2010 over 2009, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Chicago Dept. of Aviation.

The FAA reported O'Hare's arrivals and departures increased 6.5 percent through October 2010, showing the largest growth among the 10 busiest U.S airports, a release from Aviation said.

Through November, O'Hare experienced a 4 percent increase in passenger volume and a 34 percent increase in cargo tonnage over the same period in 2009. O'Hare's non-airline revenue, which includes concessions, parking and car rental, also increased nearly 11 percent through October, the release said.

Midway also experienced growth in 2010 with a nearly 4 percent increase in passenger volume, as well as increases in aircraft operations and non-airline revenue.
