Man Created Cheese Hat From Mom's Couch

ST. FRANCIS, Wis. (CBS/WBBM) -- Did you ever wonder who came up with the idea for the cheese-wedge hats proudly worn by Packers fans?

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Julie Mann reports, Ralph Bruno says he is the creator of the cheese hats, inspired by Bears fans who refer to Packers fans as "cheeseheads."

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that back in 1987, Bruno made the first hat from foam he got from his mother's couch, and cut it into the wedge.

To make it look more like real cheese, he burned holes into the hat, and wore it to a Milwaukee Brewers game where he said he was approached by a girl who wanted to try on the cheesehead hat.

Then another light bulb went off in Bruno's head, and he quit his job and founded a company called Foamation. The company now makes all sorts of cheese wear, from bow ties to Frisbees, the Sun-times reported.
