CHICAGO (WBBM) – An attorney for former Gov. George Ryan said they have asked federal officials to grant him another furlough to see his terminally ill wife in the hospital. Meantime, his wife, Lura Lynn, is refusing pain medication as she is treated for lung cancer.
WBBM Newsradio 780′s Steve Miller reports that Ryan’s attorney Andrea Lyon said the former governor asked personally for a second temporary furlough to visit Lura Lynn in a Kankakee hospital, but was denied.
So now lawyers are asking the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to let him out of prison overnight to visit Lura Lynn’s bedside.

“I don’t know if it’s going to make any difference,” Lyon said, “but we’re trying.”
Ryan was granted a two-hour visit with his wife earlier this month.
“We’re just hoping something will happen before it’s too late,” Lyon said. “She’s trying to hang on and won’t take pain meds because she doesn’t want to be out of it,” says Lyon.
Lura Lynn Ryan has lung cancer and, according to her husband’s lawyers, her doctors have said she doesn’t have long to live.

Why do we continue to think of this as a “punishment” for Ryan, when 1) Rapists and drunk drivers serve less actual time and 2) perhaps it would be more decent to think of it as a kindness toward his wife- regardless of what you think of Ryan. What benefits humanity more, kindness or revenge? We should go after war criminals and people who exploit child labor (DeBeers, your everyday clothing manufacturer, or overseas agricultural giants- who picked your winter tomatoes in Chile? ) with half as much fervor.

If you only knew all the things that Ryan really did over the years,
you might think differently.
He is serving the least amount of time, in the easiest of Federal prisons, and closest to his home — if everyone was so fortunate

My heart goes out to the Ryan Family my prayers are with you. I would only say one is good for one must be good for in jail. Mr. Ryan when you get out don’t forget about your experiance and advocate for those that get released and are denied employment daily. They deserve a right to provide for there families yet the private sector does not hire. WE need to create jobs for felons etc. I hope you get to see your wife again Keep in mind the many millions who sit in prison everyday while there loves ones die and are not given a chance to see them. GOD BE WITH YOU ND THE RYAN FAMILY

There are many jail inmates who did’nt or could’nt see their love ones before they passed so what makes George Ryan think he will get special treatment? You’ve done the crime now do your time and quit the press. Period!

Wasn’t it 4 weeks ago that we were told she had “hours to live” according to CBS2 and WMAQ 5. Now she’s still alive and clinging to life. I’m sorry but I have no pity for George or the family. He was dirty, he got caught, he never showed ANY remorse for his crimes. Live with it Ryans. QUIT complaining.

Let the guy visit his wife of 50 years for a few days! What’s so hard to figure out about that? Holy cow! I didn’t like him and didn’t vote for him, but seriously, how about some human compassion?

The corruption keeps going on and on and on. I believe that he is being let out and we just don’t know about it. What I don’t understand is why these building inspectors are getting caught taking bribes and the City is letting them keep their pensions? Ryan was not allowed to keep any of the pension money neither did his wife? What gives???

At least three weeks ago, WBBM-TV’s was the only website that reported Mrs. Ryan might have “hours to live”. Tonight, the early news promoted their late news with: “Be careful how you answer you phones”. Bill and Walter must want to be a part of this but why?

Whatever, I think that yes this person has to pay for whatever he did and he has been doing exactly that, But he has been married for a very long time to his beloved and I do think that he should have that opportunity to do that..And after that serve whatever time he has left.. We can certainly break rules for everyone, right like what we did for Mr.Rahm Emmanual today–he should not be here running for Mayor. He left here to go service the President for the last few years and now here he is on the ballots for Mayor.. And Mr. Obama show us prove that you were born in Hawaii,,why is it that we haven’t been able to see that proof…Give this man a simple few days to say good bye to his wife is all I am saying….
January 26, 2011 at 8:12 pm
No, that isn’t all you said. You said something about Rahm Emmanaul, the President and, Hawaii. I would not have a clue what they, Rahm Emmanaul, the President and, Hawaii would have to do with a story about Mr. and Mrs. Ryan’s dilemmas?

If it was a common man, he would NEVER be allowed to leave to go to his wife. While its a sad situation. I say keep him in jail where he belongs. As far as her not taking pain meds, well thats HER decision, she can try to be coherent for what? I say take the meds lady, he aint coming out again

WHAT A LOAD OF BS yet again from Lyin Ryans lawyers. Last month…YES…1 MONTH AGO, Lyin Ryans lawyers were all over the news claiming that Ryans wife had ONLY HOURS TO LIVE…and he should be released from jail. Well, hours, turned into days…now weeks……MORE LIES….FROM GEORGE “LYIN” Ryan and his team of scheysters.
