New Job For Car Salesman With Packers Tie

HOMEWOOD, Ill. (WBBM/CBS) -- John Stone is probably the most famous Packers fan in the Chicago area, and now he has a new job.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Lisa Fielding reports, Guy Cesario of Chevrolet of Homewood says good salespeople are hard to find.

Thus, he offered Stone a job, after he was fired for wearing a Packers tie to work at Webb Chevrolet in Oak Lawn, the day after the Bears lost to the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

"There's hundreds of salespeople looking for jobs right now," Cesario said. "But seeing as he was already a Chevy salesman somewhere, I know he's going to do a good job for us. He seems very passionate."

Cesario says he has already had numerous calls about his newest employee.

"We've had people as far away as a purchasing manager at a pharmaceutical company in San Diego, called me and said that five salesman that he has in the Chicagoland area – they'll be getting their cars here in the spring," Cesario said, "and we have a gentleman from Milwaukee who's going to come down and buy a Tahoe."

Cesario says he sympathizes with Stone. He grew up a Cubs fan on the South Side.

Webb Chevrolet has identified itself with the Bears in its advertising, and after being told several times that he would get fired if he didn't take off the tie, Stone was terminated on Monday.

Webb Chevrolet General Manager Jerry Roberts says the tie was like salt in the wound for Bears fans such as himself – too much, even, to keep a good salesman like Stone who sold 14 cars last month.
