BRUSSELS (WBBM) – The World Trade Organization is investigating allegations that Chicago-based Boeing has received illegal subsidies.

As WBBM Newsradio 780’s Pat Cassidy reports, at issue is the long-running subsidy battle between Chicago-based Boeing and its European rival, Airbus.

The European Union says the World Trade Organization found the U.S. aid to Boeing violated international rules.

The EU claims Boeing received nearly $24 billion in subsidies, such as research grant and free use of technology, from the states of Illinois, Washington and Kansas, as well as NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense.

How much of the $24 billion was illegal won’t be clear for months.
